MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety Police Officer Sarah Worthington has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for August 2022.

According to Worthington's nominator, she is often the "Face of OPS, and with good reason."
"In addition to assisting in criminal investigations, Sarah is responsible for completing the yearly Cleary report, facilitating background check requests, and ensuring all tickets and case files are passed to the correct prosecuting agency," said her nominator. "Despite being greeted each day with a mountain of tasks that require a high level of concentration and attention to detail, Sarah approaches each shift with an effervescent, 'can do' attitude, with a level of professionalism few are able to match."
Worthington, according to her nominator, is also a RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) instructor, who represents the department at "Take Back the Night," and other events.
"Although Sarah has a specific job and designated roles, she does not use these to limit the ways in professional, knowledgeable, approachable, and a person of great integrity. The way Sarah conducts herself, both in and out of work, is a credit to WIU. Sarah attended WIU before joining OPS and takes her role as a brand ambassador extremely seriously."
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.
