Western Illinois University Board of Trustees action

 MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- At today's (Dec. 2) Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved a second reading in regard to Juneteenth as a principal holiday, along with a bargaining agreement with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council.

Following an amendment to the second reading regarding holidays, the Board approved the second reading to recognize Juneteenth as a principal holiday at WIU, beginning in 2022. The Board removed Veterans Day from the amended resolution until additional discussion can be held regarding the day as a principal holiday (University closure in observance) as undergraduate admissions typically hosts a recruitment event on Veterans Day. {See page 68 in the Board materials at wiu.edu/bot for the complete resolution}

The Board approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council, representing 23 employees at WIU. The agreement, which was ratified on Sept. 28, calls for a two percent wage increase for fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

The Board also heard reports on enrollment management and diversity initiatives. The complete BOT book, including resolutions and reports, is available at wiu.edu/bot.
