 Fousek, who is 58, worked for the Czech association in various positions from 1990. He was general secretary from 2001 to 2007, and has chaired the futsal committee and headed the international department. He has also served UEFA in a number of bodies, chairing the UEFA Futsal Committee from 2000 to 2007. More recently, he has also been a long-standing vice-chairman of the European body’s Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee.

Fousek was chairman of the local organising committee for the European Under-21 Championship finals held in the Czech Republic in 2015. His latest mission has been with the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) in Greece.

“I feel tremendous responsibility in front of me,” Fousek said after his election at the association’s general meeting in Nymburk. “It is a great honour for me to lead the largest sporting association in my country.”

“UEFA helped me by giving me more and more demanding tasks during my long career, and I have achieved the experience needed to be ready to run for this position,“ he added. “It is time to be united and work hard for football. I am offering all my experience and energy.”
