UEFA is working closely with governments and health authorities at all host venues to safeguard the health of fans attending EURO 2020 matches this summer.

While local health regulations provide the primary reference point for ensuring fan's safety at each stadium, including attendance limits, they are supplemented by UEFA's own minimum criteria – set out in the organisation's Minimum Health & Hygiene Requirements for the Return of Spectators.

According to the eight-page document: "The objective of the Minimum Requirements is to ensure that, wherever spectators can be admitted to UEFA matches, match organisers adopt best practices based on medical advice to minimise the risk of infection."

Key areas of focus

Drawn up with the support of the UEFA Medical Committee chairman Prof Dr Tim Meyer and the third vice-chairman Dr Zoran Bahtijarević, the document sets minimum standards for:

• Arrival and departure protocols

• General hygiene measures

• Ticketing and seating

• Queue management

• Infected-person procedures

• Hospitality

• Food/beverage/retail stalls

• Ticket holders’ obligations

UEFA will update the minimum requirements to take account of any changes in COVID-19 circumstances, across Europe and within countries.

What safety measures are planned to protect fans?

Based on its own minimum requirements and local public health guidelines, UEFA is introducing a range of safety measures to protect fans before, during and after games:

• Specified entry time slots for every ticket holder: fans will have a 30-minute window to arrive at the stadium to ensure adherence to social distancing guidelines.

• Hygiene: an average 800 hand sanitiser units will be placed at strategic points around each stadium. All EURO stadiums will be cleaned on a regular basis throughout match days.

• Queueing: clear floor markings will help fans maintain movement without compromising social distance regulations.

• Public awareness: safety measures will be promoted heavily throughout each stadium so everyone is aware of the rules.

• Cashless transactions: every venue will accept card payments, with many using contactless readers.
